At the beginning of his career Gábor Kerekes (1975, Budapest) was building large-scale site-specific installations in public spaces usually from scratch. Similarly, in recent years he started to make oversized collages from his immense and thematically organized collection of magazine cut-outs. Greatly inspired by science fiction and steampunk these works often depict retro-futuristic fantasy worlds resulting from and reflecting on current global socio-ecological tendencies. Advocating ecological awareness Kerekes' latest collage-installations invite the spectator to an illusionistic visual game not only by experimenting with dimensions but also by creating new aesthetic values.
